Recreational Gymnastics


Programs for all Ages and Skill Levels

 
All of our coaches have undergone training in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and are registered with Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF).​
 

Pre-School Aged Programs

BABYNASTICS

Ages: 6 - 18 months
Class Description: An introduction to gymnastics through movements such as climbing, hanging, sliding, object manipulation and so much more. The class is led by a coach in a way that allows children to explore and grow at their own pace. This class is a great way for your little one to gain strength and balance, and a wonderful way for you and your child to meet other parents and children.

Please note: parents bringing more than one child to participate in this program must be within arms reach of their children at all times. SAGC can request additional parent help for those participants unable to meet this requirement.
Babies in carseats/infant carriers are not permitted on the floor.

Prerequisite: Children must be able to crawl
Class Length: 45 minutes
PARENT & TOT 1

Ages: 18 months - 2 years
Class Description:One of our introductory classes where children will have the chance to explore gymnastics equipment and basic skills within a group. The class is led by a coach in a way that allows learning through a more guided program which transitions children and parents from an exploratory class to a more structured class throughout the session. Here, they will learn how to stay with the class at one station and basic movement patterns to help their gross motor skill development. We work in tandem with the parents to help the children work in a group setting and follow directions at an easy and comfortable pace.

Please note: parents bringing more than one child to participate in this program must be within arms reach of their children at all times. SAGC reserves the right to request additional parent help for those participants unable to meet this requirement.
Babies in carseats/infant carriers are not permitted on the floor.

Prerequisite: Children must be able to walk
Class Length: 45 minutes
PARENT & TOT 2

Ages: 2 - 3 years
Class Description: One of our introductory classes where children are learning basic movement patterns to help with their gross motor skill development. This is a coach-led structured class. Children will continue learning how to follow instructions and stay with the group at each station while also building their strength, coordination and basic gymnastics skills. Within this class there will be a wide variety of children at different development stages. As such, you can expect that some are working on beginner gymnastics skills requiring lots of assistance, and some that are moving towards working more independently with less aid from their parent/guardian.

Please note: parents bringing more than one child to participate in this program must be within arms reach of their children at all times. SAGC reserves the right to request additional parent help for those participants unable to meet this requirement.

Class Length: 60 minutes
WARRIORS 1

Ages: 4 - 5 years
Class Description: A great introduction to unparented gymnastics, or a continuation of learning for those who completed the Mini Movers class prior to enrolling in Warriors 1.
Children will begin or continue to develop their gross motor development and expand on their foundational gymnastics skills. This includes skills from each of the fundamental movement patterns: Landings, Locomotions, Rotations, Stationary Positions, Springs, Swings & Object Manipulation - a requirement of Active Start programming. A high focus will be placed on safety and listening skills, which will assist in achieving the gymnastics skills within the program. Examples of these skills are: rolling forwards and sideways, supporting their body weight in different ways (hands, feet, hanging), learning to rebound with 2 feet.
Parents/guardians are required to stay in the building for the duration of this class in case extra assistance is required.
Prerequisite: Children must be potty trained.
Children must be correct age at the beginning of the session.
Class Length: 60 minutes
WARRIORS 2

Ages: 4 - 5 years
Class Description: This is the second level of unparented gymnastics for this age group, providing an opportunity to build on the skills that have already been learned in Warriors 1.
Children will continue to develop their gross motor development and expand on their foundational gymnastics skills. This includes the next skills from each of the fundamental movement patterns: Landings, Locomotions, Rotations, Stationary Positions, Springs, Swings & Object Manipulation - a requirement of Active Start programming.
A high focus will be placed on safety and listening skills. Children will progress skills such as different types of forward rolls and supports on hands (handstands) while also being introduced to backward rolls and hanging inverted.
Parents/guardians are required to stay in the building for the duration of this class in case extra assistance is required.
Prerequisite: Completion of Warriors Level 1.
Class Length: 60 minutes
WARRIORS 3

Ages: 4 - 5 years
Class Description: This is the third level of unparented gymnastics for this age group, providing an opportunity to build on the skills that have already been learned in Warriors 2.
Children will continue to develop their gross motor development and expand on their foundational gymnastics skills. This includes the next skills from each of the fundamental movement patterns: Landings, Locomotions, Rotations, Stationary Positions, Springs, Swings & Object Manipulation - a requirement of Active Start programming. A high focus will be placed on safety and listening skills. Children will continue to progress their handstands and rolls (forward and backward). They will also begin learning new body positioning to aid them in high level skills and will begin learning to jump across the beam.
Parents/guardians are required to stay in the building for the duration of this class in case extra assistance is required.
Prerequisite: Completion of Warriors Level 2

Active Start Programming is designed for children from 6 months old to 5 years old (inclusive). In Gymnastics, this programming is designed to explore the foundational movements of gymnastics, learn how to participate in a structured class, and participate in object manipulation to help learn other basic skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, fine motor, etc.

Pre-School Aged Specialty Programs

MINI MOVERS

Ages: 3.5 - 4 years
Class Description: An introduction to unparented gymnastics for those children who are exceeding expectations in the Parent & Tot 2 class, with little to no assistance needed from their parent/guardian. Children will continue to develop their gross motor development and expand on their foundational gymnastics skills. This includes skills from each of the fundamental movement patterns: Landings, Locomotions, Rotations, Stationary Positions, Springs, Swings & Object Manipulation - a requirement of Active Start programming.
A high focus will be placed on safety and listening skills, which will assist in achieving the gymnastics skills within the program. Examples of these skills are: building strength, rolling forwards and sideways, supporting their body weight in different ways (hands, feet, hanging), & learning to spring with 2 feet.
Parents/guardians are required to stay in the building for the duration of this class in case extra assistance is required.
Prerequisite:
Minimum 1 session of Parent & Tot 2.
Children must be potty trained.
Parents must remain onsite to take child to the washroom during the duration of the class and for additional support if needed.
Class Length: 60 minutes
LITTLE GIANTS 1

Ages: 4 - 5 years
Class Description:This is the first level of our advanced preschool-aged class. It is offered to children who have completed Warriors level 3 and are not yet old enough to enter into the CanGym badge program, or, who have been assessed and recommended for this class. The expectation for this class is that children already have a strong foundation of gymnastics and excellent listening skills, which will aid them in building strong technique of each skill they work on.
Children will continue to build on the next skill/progression in each of the fundamental movement patterns: Landings, Locomotions, Rotations, Stationary Positions, Springs, Swings & Object Manipulation, as is required in Active Start programming. Some of the newer skills include: pullover, mini glide swings, cartwheel & handstand progressions. .
Prerequisite: Completion of Warriors Level 3 OR Coach Recommendation from an Assessment.
Class Length: 90 minutes
LITTLE GIANTS 2

Ages: 4 - 5 years
Class Description: This is the second level of our advanced preschool-aged class. It is offered to children who have successfully completed Little Giants 1 and are not yet old enough to enter into the CanGym badge program. The expectation continues to be a strong foundation of gymnastics and excellent listening skills, which will aid them in building a strong technique of each skill they work on.
Children will continue to build on the next skill in each of the fundamental movement patterns: Landings, Locomotions, Rotations, Stationary Positions, Springs, Swings & Object Manipulation, as is required in Active Start programming. Some of the newer skills include: diveroll, beat swings, full cartwheel, kick to handstand, rolls with straight arms. .
Prerequisite:Completion of Little Giants Level 2
Class Length: 90 minutes
RISING STARS

Ages: 4 - 5 years
Class Description: The key components and focus of the Rising Stars advanced program are on basic skills, strength, and conditioning to prepare participants for competitive gymnastics. The girls will learn discipline, technical gymnastics, and dance, with an emphasis on detail and form. Although more technical, we throw in some fun activities needed to motivate this young age group
Prerequisite:Must have a coach recommendation to register
Class Length: 4hrs/week (across 2 days); Commitment time is September-June.
TUMBLING TOTS PLAYGYM: TINY TUMBLERS

Ages: 3.5 - 4.5 years
Class Description: Children in this class will learn through creativity, exploration, play, guided discovery & and instructor led activities to learn the foundations of movement, literacy, numeracy, colours and shapes. We spend time both in the gym and in the activity room using a cross-curricular approach that allows children to make connections in meaningful ways. The class runs 2 days a week for 2.25hrs each day from September until June and is a great lead up into the Terrific Tumblers class..

TUMBLING TOTS PLAYGYM: TERRIFIC TUMBLERS

Ages: 4 - 5 years
Class Description: Children in this class will continue to learn through creativity, exploration, play, guided discovery & and instructor led activities to increase strength and understanding in all areas of physical movement, literacy, numeracy, colours and shapes. We spend time both in the gym and in the activity room using a cross-curricular approach that allows children to make connections in meaningful ways and add in extras as needed. Doing so allows a challenge in the thinking process to make new, higher level connections. The class runs 3 days a week for 2.25hrs each day from September until June with a goal of guiding each child to their Kindergarten readiness..

At Tumbling Tots PlayGym, we strive to provide a program that allows cross-curricular activities, where children are supported to learn through many different methods. We encourage children to learn through movement as well as exploration, discovery, and play. In our active learning environment, your child will get to explore the foundations of gymnastics, while also discovering their creative side, building onto their basic knowledge, and learning to share and work with others in our activity room.

Can Gym Programs

BURGUNDY / RED

Ages: 6 - 9 years
Class Description: Athletes with little to no experience in gymnastics will start off in the Burgundy Badge class. Athletes will learn the basic fundamentals in gymnastics while also gaining physical fitness. Structured classes begin with a warm-up/stretch and then athletes will have the opportunity to work on basic gymnastic skills on all apparatus. Athletes will work within the first two levels of the Canadian Gymnastics Federation Can Gym program.

Class Length: 60 minutes
TAN / BRONZE

Ages: 6 - 9 years
Class Description: Gymnasts that have successfully completed both Burgundy and Red badges will move into the Tan /Bronze program. In these levels, athletes will focus on learning skills grouped into one of the 7 fundamental movement patterns. Each session will build upon the fundamental movements learned in the subsequent Burgundy/ Red program. Athletes will learn skills such as inverted balances, hangs, cartwheels, handstands and pullovers using a variety of equipment. Their confidence and ability will improve as well as their fitness level.
Prerequisite: Burgundy / Red
Class Length: 90 minutes
BRONZE/PURPLE

Ages: 7 - 12 years
Class Description: This class is geared for children who have completed the Tan badge program. They will continue to build on skills learned and developed in their previous badges using a variety of equipment. Their confidence, physical fitness and ability will soar as they work on more advanced skills. Skills include round-offs, basic vault skills, uneven bar swings and casts as well as basic dance elements for beam and floor. Gymnasts must pass the current badge they are registered in before advancing to the next level.
Prerequisite: Completion of Tan badge
Class Length: 120 minutes
BLUE +

Ages: 7+ years
Class Description: This class is geared for children who have completed the Purple badge program. They will continue to build on skills learned and developed in their previous badges using a variety of equipment. Their confidence, physical fitness and ability will soar as they work on more advanced skills. Skills include round-offs, intermediate vault skills, uneven bar swings and circling elements as well as dance elements and routine building skills for beam and floor. Gymnasts must pass the current badge they are registered in before advancing to the next level.
Prerequisite: Purple
Class Length: 120 minutes



CANGYM (Artistic Gymnastics) is the Canadian recognized artistic gymnastics development program, where athletes begin learning all encompassing skills and movement patterns such as jumping, rolls, supports, and safety landings and can branch off to sport specific events: Women’s events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise and the Men’s events: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar.

Tumbling

BEGINNER TUMBLING

Ages: 6 - 9 years
Class Description: This is an introductory class in our Trampoline & Tumbling program. Athletes will learn the basic fundamentals on Floor, Tumble Track and Trampoline while also developing flexibility, strength and core balance. Athletes will progress at their own pace through the first three levels in the Can Jump program.

Note: We have updated our schedule and ages for these classes to better serve you. We are now offering two different age groups for this program.

Class Length: 90 minutes
INTERMEDIATE TUMBLING

Ages: 8+ years
Class Description: This program is the next step for gymnasts who want to continue to build upon their Tumbling and Trampoline skills. Skills learned in the Beginner T&T class will be reviewed and intermediate skills will be developed. Athletes will begin to work on front and back walkovers, round-offs and handsprings. Athletes must be working on Can Jump levels 4 or 5 to be able to enter this program.

Prerequisite: Completion of Beginner Tumbling and Trampoline (Can Jump level 3)
Class Length: 2 Hours
CHEER TUMBLE

Ages: 8+ years
Class Description: This class provides an opportunity for Cheer athletes to work on their Tumbling skills. Athletes will also learn and use other foundational Gymnastics skills to help them safely progress their Tumbling to a new level and provide them with a foundation that will assist them in learning new Tumbling skills.
Due to demand, this class is typically offered upon request and interest.
No testing is completed during this class as athletes tend to come in with tumbling skills they are working towards in Cheer.
Prerequisite: This class is designed for athletes in cheer levels 1-2. Coached approved/assessed and handstand, cartwheel, round off
Class Length: 90 minutes



Our tumbling program allows athletes to further develop their skills. Each level teaches more advanced skills. Our program follows the Canadian Gymnastics Federation CanJump program which helps athletes develop flexibility, courage, strength, technique and landings in a safe environment.

Parkour Programs

BEGINNER PARKOUR

Ages: 6 - 9 years
Class Description: This program allows your child to experience Urban Gymnastics (as is seen outdoors) in the safety of the gym setting. It includes the basic skills that will allow athletes to get through courses with many obstacles in the way.
Prerequisite: None
Levels 1 & 2
Class Length: 60 minutes
INTERMEDIATE PARKOUR

Ages: 8+ years
Class Description: This program allows your child to experience Urban Gymnastics (as is seen outdoors) in the safety of the gym setting.
Prerequisite: Completion of either of the beginner parkour classes. A coach recommendation is required to register.
Levels: 3, 4, 5
Class Length: 90 minutes



Parkour is a gymnastics discipline that involves learning how to move through an environment in the most efficient and creative way possible. Learning the skills used in Parkour will allow athletes to complete different obstacle courses quickly and safely. The Parkour program that we use was developed in Alberta for use in Alberta Gymnastics Clubs.

Pre-Teen Programs

10+ BURGUNDY / RED / TAN / BRONZE

Ages: 10+ years
Class Description: This class is geared towards older athletes with little to no experience in gymnastics and will start off in the Burgundy Badge class. Athletes will learn the basic fundamentals in gymnastics while also gaining physical fitness. Classes are structured and begin with a warm-up/stretch followed by basic gymnastic skills on all apparatus. Athletes will work within the first four levels of the Canadian Gymnastics Federation CanGym program. Athletes must complete their current level prior to moving to the next level.

Class Length: 90 minutes
10+ BEGINNER TUMBLING

Ages: 10+ years
Class Description: This is an introductory class in our Trampoline & Tumbling program. Our teen programs, while still working within the Canadian Gymnastics Federation Can Gym program, gives athletes the opportunity to work on their skills with their peers. While focusing on gymnastics fundamentals we recognize that these athletes also want to have fun while working with others of similar age.

Specialty Programs

HOMESCHOOL GYMNASTICS

Ages: 6+ years
Class Description: Athletes will work on basic to intermediate gymnastics fundamentals at their own pace to complete skills in the Can Gym program as well as gain physical fitness. Classes are structured and begin with a warm-up/ stretch and then athletes will have the opportunity to work on skills on the apparatus. At the end of the session they will receive a certificate of completion.

Class Length: 60 minutes
MINI TEAM

Ages: 6+ years
Class Description: The key components and focus of this advanced program are on basic skills, strength, and conditioning to prepare them for competitive gymnastics. Athletes will learn discipline, technical gymnastics, and dance with an emphasis on detail and form. Although more technical, we throw in some fun activities needed to motivate the athletes. This program falls under our recreational umbrella, and registration will follow the recreational sessions. Athletes are encouraged to register for all 3 sessions of the year and athletes that participate in at least the last two sessions will have the opportunity to attend a fun competition in June.

This program is a preparation class for competitive
"I AM" - Inclusive Artistic Movement for Special Populations

Ages:4 - 6 years
Class Description: This class provides an opportunity for children with disabilities or unique learning needs to gain foundational gymnastics movements. Children will explore these movements at their own pace through circuits, games and free play when appropriate. Goals of this class will vary and may include, but are not limited to, the following: increasing stability and endurance in activity, increasing focus during structured lesson, increasing gymnastics and artistic movement skills. ***Please provide parent or aide support as needed.
